Yes but given the current price it's indistinguishable from a major investment. Depending on where you live, renting instead of paying back your loan and investing the difference might be a better investment long term.

I,agree with that. I actually don't recommend buying a house for anyone who has no children (although rents are starting to look more like mortgages).
