People aren't zapping because they want to get more followers.
I don't care if Derek follows me back, I'm going to zap him either way, he's a good guy, he has good takes, he puts work and effort into improving nostr, especially the welcomings to new users.
Pretty much the opposite of zap farmers like corndalorian that the primal app suggests to every new user.
