The simplest way to explain the immigration issue without rhetoric or other talking points that could potentially offend the sensibilities of progressives is:

Canada (40 million people)

India (1.4 Billion people)

The overwhelming majority of Canadians do not want to move to India. The overwhelming majority of Indians want to move to Canada. Because Canada is amazing.

CANADIANS need to decide what the rules and requirements of their immigration policy is. Not only that, they absolutely need to limit immigration. Because if immigration doesn’t have high standards and strict limits. India is only one example of many. But if we allowed every Indian to move to Canada. Canada would become India very quickly.

This is not even mentioning how high levels of immigration strain social systems, cause the cost of living to go up, housing prices to go up, and so on. Because of the basic rule of economics that when more people chase fewer goods. Those goods and services become more scarce and the prices go up.

In conclusion what is the limit? Is 500,000 a year too high? Many would say so. More and more are saying we need a moratorium for at least five years. To properly balance out our system. Obviously some are getting more extreme than that with proposed solutions. But the issue is real and it is rational.
