One of the pioneers in time-based media (video), Bill Viola, has passed away. His #artwork illuminated my path and inspired my work in countless ways. Each encounter with his work stirred me from within. The use of #metaphor and #technology held profound psychological significance for my personal journey. Many themes resonated deeply. Thank you ❤️
In 2001, I met him in NYC at the end of a lecture. The Metropolitan Museum had just acquired "The Quintet of Remembrance," the first representation of video art to enter the Museum's collection.
#BillViola was kind and humble during the brief meeting after his lecture, despite my nervousness from meeting one of my heroes. He was coherent with everything I had read about him, and what struck me was his kindness and genuine curiosity about the video piece I told him I was creating, which was a truly meaningful moment.
