i bought 38 back in late 2012 for a silk road vendor account security deposit... sold it about 4 months later for 3x
idk how many vendors there was on SR, probably in the thousands, and then there was a heap of other markets sprung up not long after, bitcoin was $14 back when i started
you didn't give a time window so i think that counts?
i'd estimate that in the period leading up to when bitcoin blew out to 1000 probably in total maybe a few million people
there virtually was only one exchange at that time too, and they already had KYC ... just before they got "hacked"
