Why is it that every time you get prescribed something by your doctor the side effect of the medication is the same thing its supposed to be treating.

Like what's up with that. The future is still a long way away. Maybe if we had less socialised healthcare and companies could test products without the governments nose getting in the way, innovators would actually be able to create useful medications.
