Whenever I feel stressed about a performance I always remind myself I’m doing something “I want to do”. I’m stressed because “I care”. I try to put my energy back into the concept of enjoying what I do. Actually enjoying the moment. Competing. Being on camera. Having a crowd. Enjoying the stage. Each of us have our own passions and our stages are different but we all have anxiety about performance due to areas of passion where we want to succeed.

This is a great reason to never be a pro fighter. Every amateur has to make peace with getting their ass whooped over and over for no immediate or measurable benefit. They have to be there because they love to be there. I think this makes it easier to get the psychological benefits of martial arts practice.

Only high level competitors get the option of getting distracted by this extra stress.

Of course, easy for me to say that because I suck. The high level competitor path was not an option for me.

I’m sure being one of the best in the world must help too right?
