Definitely the latter imo. There’s plenty of space for it. Apple tried with the touch bar but that was a huge failure and all modern Apple laptops have full height F keys.

I lean this way as well... even on my mech keyboard I have a Fkeys... but I know there is an avid crowd of the small size ones
