Not necessarily true, with the 7-hop maximum built into BitChat, you can only get at most about a mile before you can't hop any farther.

meshtastic may be less common but you can go much much farther distance with it

Easy to figure out, just take maximum Bluetooth range and multiply it by 7 hops. And you'd get the maximum possible distance. And mind you, that's if the devices can just barely hear each other and are placed perfectly. You're very likely going to get less than that because the devices are likely not going to be placed perfectly and will not only just be able to hear each other.
