I agree, and yet there are entire ages where populations are brought up "Christian" without ever being drawn into Christ.

Remember that even Satan does not deny Christ is Lord.

Matthew 7:21

[21] “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (ESV)

Note that saying Christ's name is not enough. You also have to do his will. Faith without works is evidence of a dead faith.

We can decieve ourselves about our faith. The regenerate are regenerated.
