It is pretty common practice in rural areas for people to shoot dogs seen chasing deer or livestock. We lost a hunting dog when I was a kid when two of them got off their run and disappeared for a few days for an adventure. Only one returned and it had a lot of blood spatter on it. I suspect the male was shot. It was a shame, but it seemed to be an unwritten rule, in that area anyway.
I do not recommend you allow your dogs to chase deer or other animals. This easily transitions to chasing cars and puts your dog at risk for no real gain. #grownostr

I have told my neighbors in the past who have allowed dogs to roam too freely, I will shoot your dog if it’s on my property, but feel free to do the same. Each owner is responsible for keeping their dog where it belongs.
