⚡️🇮🇳 NEW - I recently discovered a very cool project! I stumbled upon a project created by the2ndfloorguy.

He shared an idea that was as brilliant as it was radical: "Tired of stupid people on the road, I turned my helmet into a traffic police device."

What makes the project completely crazy:

➣ a "hacked" helmet equipped with an AI agent

➣ the AI runs in near real time while he's riding

➣ it detects violations (e.g., no license plate, various violations)

➣ each violation is documented with evidence (license plate, type of violation, date and time, and precise location)

➣ all this information is sent directly to the police by email

Incredible plot twist: a few days after his post, he was contacted by the Office of the Commissioner of Police in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka and one of India's largest technology hubs, which showed great interest in the project.

Basically, while he is driving, an AI agent spots violations, generates evidence, and automatically forwards it to the authorities. An excellent example of civic tech + Orwellian + AI + hardware + whistleblowing.

⚡️🧐 The end comes from me to tell you what I think of this project: An excellent example of civic tech + Orwellian + AI + hardware + whistleblowing.

Not sure forcing AI into public spaces and upon people's assets or faces is the best idea to push.

How is this any different from forced facial ID in China and police knocking on your door in the UK for something you wrote on social media?

Hard pass on such controlling and anti-privacy tech.

What an unlawful & unethical device.

Too 1984 for me

It would be awesome if this dude wouldn't snitch on ordinary citizens, but would use his talents to report the police and the local government misdeeds to the citizens or to the news stations.

Whilst one can admire the tech and resourcefulness of this project, one also has to shudder at the probability of it being deployed at scale and for purposes vastly more dystopian than just a missing number plate or helmet not being worn...

Cool, soon we’ll all be required to have these so we can digitally snitch on each other. Great.
