Have you considered maybe changing up your teaching for this particular child? I have a student who was not practicing (he did show interest so maybe that is the difference) and I figured out I had to give him some finger picking, rather than teaching through the book I like to use, and he has gobbled it up! Just a thought, I fully understand that some people just aren't cut out for music.

I’ve been teaching kids for 30+ years I think and once in a while one comes along who has absolutely no feeling for music. This is one of those kids. Unfortunately, mum doesn’t want him to be “not musical”.

That is sad. My older brother didn't like piano practice but Mom made us both pick an instrument to learn. To this day he doesn't play, I do.
