v0.8.0 brings:

- Show place comments

- Hide ATMs by default

- Show places offering delivery

We have temporarily lost dark tile support as we migrate to a self-sovereign vector tile setup. Dark tiles will hopefully back in the next release!

We have also migrate to a RPC-based API on the BTC Map server, which makes things more efficient and performant all round.

Igor did most of the heavy lifting on all of this and so props to him. 💪

Yo BTC Map! The other day I tried to add a location without having an OSM login and only a mobile phone, sort of a hassle watching the video, creating an account, adding the merchants credentials including the BTC hashtag, everything on the go/mobile browser only… Maybe the biggest improvement would be by adding BTC acceptance with one tap on an existing merchant directly within the app ie not switching to OSM/browser? Just thinking, sounds easy but I guess there’s a lot of work behind….

Yeah l, there is some OSM friction in adding a place.

We're planning to make it a little easier in the future with Nostr Places, which will remove the account requirements and make the whole process slicker.

The gamification features mentioned (achievements, rewards, venue discovery) require careful balance between public visibility and user privacy. While you can implement basic public anonymous achievements now, meaningful social features need Nostr's upcoming trust circle protocol to:

Let users share specific venue visits with trusted friends only

Enable private recommendations within friend groups

Create meaningful social engagement without exposing user patterns

Balance public badges/achievements with private transaction data

Recommendation: Start with anonymous public achievements, but design your architecture to easily integrate trust circle features once the Nostr protocol adds these capabilities. This ensures you protect user privacy while building toward fuller social features.

Future scope: Rich social features within trust circles
