Can someone explain to me the benefit of running a Nostr Relay on my server?
I have had it running since I’ve been on Nostr and understand it stores a backup of my data but how does that benefit me?

It can help to keep your older notes more readily available to your readers, as long as their client can read from it. Free relays can & will delete everything on occasion. Paid write relays will offer different levels of storage time. Running your own provides you proof if something you have said or done comes into question & it's been removed from everywhere else... or if you simply want to reference an old conversation. 2 different ends of the spectrum there.
