My parents have each been scammed (not lost any money so far) by two separate social engineering fiat scams. Does anyone have any resources I can have them watch or read that can help educate them? I have already sent them Junseths interview with the scammer to which I believe only my father listened to most of.

I was just talking about this… I’ve been here for a week and tbh I’m probably a sought after target but still… the amount of social engineering that happened immediately made me realize the work I need to be doing to keep my friends and family awake

Get a family password?

That is exactly right

I had a post-note about this, cannot find it now...

I think that’s the best there is. I hate admitting it but it’s so good it happened to me. They catch people at just the right time and it was like I was hypnotized. 😵‍💫 I was sweating and heart was pounding and I shut the whole thing down so they didn’t get all that was there but enough for me to never answer my phone or click in an email

Not sure specifically what kind of scams your parents are experiencing, but there are a ton of resources on the subject. If they're dealing with telephone scammers, then Scammer Payback is definitely a YouTube channel I'd recommend:

https://m.youtube.com/@ScammerPayback

Their motto sums it up nicely: "Scammers are ruthless, and that's why I'm here. My channel is all about bringing awareness to this critical problem with humor and fun. We'll learn a lot of things along the way, and if I help one person through this, it'll be worth it."

If they want to learn more about the psychology of con artists (and everyone should), it can help them recognize how these scammers think. The psychology of social engineering and techniques of persuasion and manipulation is a deep subject, but it's important for everyone to understand and learn to recognize.

If they're willing to go down the rabbit hole, here are a few recommendations to get started:

1. "Con Artists Unveiled" (on Prime) is a solid watch.

2. "Social Engineering: The Art of Human Hacking" by Christopher Hadnagy

3. "Scam Me if You Can: Simple Strategies to Outsmart Today's Rip-off Artists" by Frank Abagnale - the author (and former con artist) of "Catch Me If You Can" teaches you what to avoid doing so you aren't a target for scammers

4. "Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion" by Robert B. Cialdini - "You'll learn the six universal principles of influence and how to use them to become a skilled persuader—and, just as importantly, how to defend yourself against dishonest influence attempts"

These last few are more specialized, but also very relevant:

- "The Game" by Neil Strauss is more about pick-up artists but covers many tactics of psychological manipulation.

- "The Art of Deception" and "The Art of Invisibility" by Master Social Engineer Kevin Mitnick (RIP), the world's most famous - and formerly most wanted - computer hacker, cover real stories and examples of how social engineering can be combined with hacking.

Again, if I had more info to go on specifically, I could give a more specialized list, but as a broad answer, these are a few resources that will help them to understand scammers' methods and protect themselves from various forms of deception and manipulation.
