I don’t know anything about it. Just heard about this through this post. I just found the “can run on anything” part interesting

The old trick of making things easy and convenient. I've seen videos of it, it's horrible.

Of course, if you don't mind CCP propaganda, it does have all those advantages...

Hard pass

Like, I am seeing videos on YT of all these people running agents with this shit on their phones and personal computers... What can possibly go wrong?

But hey, let's all switch to GrapheneOS with VPN over Tor and a killswitch and Tails on our laptop because MS Pilot bad xD

😂

The fact they are able to get similar performance with way less compute is going disrupt the AI bubble market here. Everyone buying so many Nvidia chips for what if China is capable of getting same results with 10% of the chips compared to what the massive corps are buying. I agree with the CCP propaganda part but there is plenty uses cases where censorship doesnt matter math, coding etc where the model can be useful. Essentially free.

I’m all for the competition. Good for free market. CCP propaganda is terrible

It's "free" like Google and Meta products are "free".

Correct, but also OpenAi is doing the same thing Google and Meta products do, but they charge you a lot. So, in this instance, the free tier is better; if you are going to get spied on, you might as well not pay for the privilege.

I agree that when we say lesser evil, we still end up chosing evil. But is it better to get spied on by China since it’s “free”? I’m not sure

They are releasing open-source models that can be run locally, but these models censor any content critical of the CCP. I'd say China's DeepSeek is a lesser evil than OpenAI, which doesn't release open models and charges you a boatload to spy on you while censoring. If we go with the argument to not choose the lesser evil, we would end up where we aren't using anything, because you can argue that how they make most products, like iPhones, with slave labor is evil. Again Fuck the CCP and Fuck Sam Altman but i'll take DeepSeek over OpenAi right now because they are releasing open source models people can build on and add back in whatever the CCP censored.

Does these open source models need the internet to work? Or they’re totally offline?

*Do these

You can run them locally without internet.

This is the part I don’t understand, if they can be run locally, that no internet is needed for it to work, and assuming that there’s no backdoor in the software (that’s the big IF), how are they stealing data or spying?

OpenAI, you cannot run any model without being online with a paid account, so they are spying on you. When it comes to DeepSeek, they have released open-source models that you can run at home locally offline. However, most people have hardware constraints, so they will use it on the DeepSeek website, where they spy. The cool thing that DeepSeek has done is that they are making the models way more efficient and better, so the smaller models can do more, meaning less hardware is needed to run at home locally. This is a good thing. Open source is the way. Meta is also open-sourcing their models. OpenAI and Claude are the only big ones not open-sourcing.

When google spies on you they try and sell you products through ads. What does China do when they spy on you? I don’t know for sure

I know open source is good but does it fix China trying to interfere/destabilize western governments?

I know my bias towards the west is showing. I have difficulty trusting China

I do not blame you. This could help start popping the AI bubble in the USA maybe thats how they benefit. I do not blame you. China should not be trusted. Ai bubble would of eventually burst anyway but this could speed things up. They just proved you can have same results in these models with way less hardware. Nvidia selling so many chips that might not be needed in the future because these efficiencies. Over supply coming soon....Nvidia eventually 📉 but we shall see. I like competition.

If it can speed up competition definitely. Curious to see the West’s response to these models that use less computing power

Precisely the shills are remarking that they did it not *without* Nvidia chips, but with a lot of them that very wisely the Chinese got their hand on right before the US banned their export, in 2023. About 50,000 units.

So, 1. they proved that they were able to optimize what Nvidia chips can do, not that they can do without Nvidia chips

2. they will soon fall behind again, once people with access to the newer chips optimize them a bit

It's jsut the latest CCP propaganda psyop. They continuously carpet bomb us through social media with this type of crap.

From "oh the longest bridge in the world so much wow", "oh look at those trains much gasp", to "oh (chicks dressed like) robot! It's China's century!". And now "oh look at the CCP's AI on my cellphone, it truly is GAME OVER Elon Altman!".

Because the West is so bored and sick with itself and Americans especially are so ignorant of the world, and even more of China, we fall for this shit every-single-time.

Doesn't make it real, but it does eat into our collective morale, which is exactly the objective.

*Also, those older pre-ban chips are the ones THEY admit to using. So you can bet your ass that they have the new ones too.
