Lightning isn't on chain. I know lightning is faster but it relies on locked funds on the node which limits the size of transactions. Monero is fast without relying on a layer 2 solution and doesn't require me to rely on a third party or stake money I may or may not have to receive funds.
The whole point why Bitcoin works is because it’s slow on the base layer. That gives it its security and decentralization.

decentralization has nothing to do with how frequently you write blocks or how large they are allowed to be (perhaps an argument might be made for security but I don't see how [please elaborate]). If anything I'd say the high cost of entry into mining btc makes it more likely to be centralized. Monero is very likely more decentralized. A lot of us run a full node on our own, and p2pool makes pool mining accessible without compromising on decentralization. A lot of bitcoin is mined in datacenters, and many people still haven't learned that they should be holding their own wallet keys so a lot of bitcoin actually lives on the central exchanges. The [US] government even wants to make holding your own keys equal to being a bank to try and keep it that way.
So decentralization has nothing to do with the blocksize?
Alright. Make the blocksize for example way bigger, normal people like me cannot run a node anymore because it would take too much data to store. So who’s gonna run the nodes? Big players with big data centers. —> centralization
The whole point of a low blocksize is that everybody can run a node and verify without big boundaries. That’s what decentralization is.
