Have you read My Ishmael and The Story of B?
They kinda have to be ready together, though in no particular order. It's been more than a decade since I read them all but I think I'm probably about due for a redo.
No, I haven't. Ishmael was a suggestion from someone, I just read that. Might give them a read sometime.
