there are definitely valid criticisms to Signal - phone number required, not being able to run your own server, reliance on intel SGX - but it strikes a pretty amazing tradeoff balance, grateful that it exists, most people would be better off if they used it more

unreal how many people tell me "Signal is compromised" then proceed to use imessage for 90% of their chats

Any advice on how to get more of my entourage to come in signal?

Craziest part is, most of my close ones aren’t technologically impaired, yet making the change from Facebook Messenger to iMessage was already a struggle.

I got many people to install and use Signal using 2 tactics:

- Installed #CalyxOS or GrapheneeOS on a Pixel with #Fdroid but without GooglePlayy. Told my contacts: 'Sorry my phone doesn't have Google Play or WhaysApp - it's got Signal instead' and sent link.

- I run free classes for kids and adults - offered only on #JitsiMeet and #Signal.
