Absolutely nothing with the general functionality of it.

I refuse to have everything I upload go through cloudflare. That's a hard no.

I've already heard about how it's "necessary." I do not accept that. Using the worst centralizing and invasive thing on the internet at this time (in my ignorant opinion) to scan all the media that gets uploaded through your service is anathema to the distributed, decentralized ethos of nostr. So, I politely choose to not make use of your otherwise excellent service.

That’s a perfectly valid opinion, I have no beef with that. I’ll just take this as an opportunity to explain why we do what we do.

1) Cost - when we pledge no ads and a generous free upload limit, it’s financial impossibly to use anything else yet.

2) Upload moderation and scanning - despite 99.9% of users being honest and using service to share legitimate media, there are still pedophiles and animal abusers that are just looking for a chance to upload and share. We bear legal responsibility to prevent them from doing so.

3) Reachability in the otherwise inaccessible regions - it may come to you as a surprise, but Cloudflare works in Iran, Iraq, Libya and many other countries where most of the CDNs that are affordable are blocked.

4) Availability - it’s hard to find anything that is as affordable and available for now, and that is super important to a great experience.

5) Lastly - overall cost of maintenance and delivery, we would consume about $500 a month only serving free uploads even on the cheapest CDN available, servers are even worse in terms of cost. Many cloud providers do not allow sexual content that we serve (freedom of expression), which removes a huge bulk of available choices.

Hope that makes sense 🐶🐾🫡
