I think it goes all the way back to the parents who assert authority as the final reason for obeying, as opposed to logic and reasoning. Any two year old understands logic and reasoning, because they are, after all, human. I get a lot of pushback on this, but I have enough experience with kids to know it as fact.

I don't disagree, but we can't underestimate the effect of heard mentality. There are a good number of studies showing many people will change a right answer to wrong, and then believe their wrong answer if it means to be part of a group.... Such as a classroom.
At this point the parents themselves also went through the same school system, albeit less captured. It would be the grandparents at this point who lived through the prior school system.
Yeah during the madness of the last few years I unlearned a bunch of "facts" by reading through home school material for the kids. Public school statist indoctrination runs deep.
