Watched Big trouble in little China (1986), an action fantasy directed by John Carpenter. A truck driver (Kurt Russell) gets in the middle of a weird supernatural battle under San Francisco Chinatown when his friends girlfriend is taken by a sorcerer. This movie has martial art warriors, spirits that shoot blue lasers from their eyes and mouths, magic portals, monsters from other dimensions, 80s humour, car chases with huge trucks. It has all the elements of a really entertaining B movie. Reminds me of the B movie film festival in the summer. I enjoyed this one. It doesn’t take itself too seriously. 7/10 #nodereviews

I love Carpenter. This one is so good 😙👌

Lots of entertaining ones so far. I saw Christine the other day. The special effects with the car were insane. No CGI. The car was rebuilding itself. Absolutely incredible special effects

Have you seen In The Mouth Of Madness? I think you like horror films, it should be right up your alley.

It’s the third one on the list. Next one is Prince of Darkness (1987). I skipped Starman (the sci fi romance about an alien visitor). Looked terrible

I'd recommend reconsidering Starman. It's actually a pretty good film. A definite departure from Carpenters usual style, but it's a good love story with some sci-fi elements. Jeff Bridges gives a great performance.

I am a huge Carpenter fan though. I may be biased 😂

Really? I wasn’t convinced so I watched the trailer and it seemed bad. But I trust you. I’ll reconsider it

great movie, also what caused John Carpenter to become fully disillusioned with mainstream hollywood

What happened ?

No funding for that type of movie?

Studios.

Ironically they usually ruin the movies

Not usually, always. Worked for Paramount for a long time, they threw so many good ideas out the door.

It would be better if the artists decided instead of the suits

Not Paramount necessarily, but I’m pretty sure Dune by Jodorowsky would have been a wild movie. With enough budget to match his vision obviously.

Panavision on the other hand, if you follow projects they support you’re in for a good show.

The equipment company?

😂 yeah, they’re top notch for supporting the artist.

The entire production was him fighting the studio and they intentionally tried to sabotage its suucess. Flopped at box office but achieved cult following

It’s a rewatch for sure. So entertaining and funny

Love the movie

He had a lot of great films that bombed, but later were reconsidered and became cult classics, practically his entire filmography actually. Misunderstood by the studios, and badly promoted.

He’s a legend. He made the first Halloween. He created the slasher type even though Halloween wasn’t a slasher 🤣

Great flick. Also check out the adventures of buckaroo banzai across the 8th dimension

This movie rocks too! A definitive cult classic.

there you are

Buckaroo Banzai across the 8th dimension 🤣

What a title. I’ll check it out. Thanks!

“you’ll love it, it’s a way of life” - Frank Zappa

Classic, with almost every 80's hong kong kung fu bad guy in it !

This is peak ‘80s chaos in the best way possible. It’s like someone threw kung fu, ghostbusters, and trucker vibes into a blender and just hit maximum power. Glad you enjoyed the ride — it’s a cult classic for a reason!

It was fun. I like that it didn’t take itself seriously. It made it better even

👌🏾👏🕺🏼

Great 80’s flick. A young Kim Cattrall is the damsel in distress

Yes. She looks way better in the film without all the ceremonial makeup 🤣
