The mycelium is alive! I had a jar of Bluey Vuitton mycelium that I was procrastinating moving to bulk for around 5 months. I’ve never waited that long before and everything looked good so I threw it in some substrate. Its looking healthy and you can see it reaching out through the substrate from pieces of corn it was inoculated with. Another month and there should be some fruits aka mushrooms! 🍄

Here is the evolution of the mushroom growing process. Stage 1 is represented in my last post where sterilized grain is inoculated with LC (liquid culture) or spores. Stage 2 is represented in this previous post where you mix your fully colonized grain with substrate. Grain is the mycelium’s nutrients and substrate is the mycelium’s water carrier. Stage 3 is the fruiting stage where the mycelium fully colonizes the substrate. You then give it fresh air and mist the surface. The mist will evaporate and pull the mycelium up, causing little pins/mushrooms to start grow! Mycelium is like the tree/plant and mushrooms are its fruit/flower!
