This pretty much sums up primal devs. They will record all of your searches tied to your pubkey, when you call them out on this they laugh at you and claim you are stirring up drama. They will even set an ā€œNROā€ profile picture to laugh at you some more. No longer going to recommend primal to anyone. It seems they couldn’t care less about your privacy.

searches are saved? interesting... i wouldn't mind if they're saved and encrypted with your nsec, but im guessing they're not since you're calling them out like this.

This is hilarious timing for this primal drama. They finally get signer support and acted a fool so I'm going to continue my boycott.

No need to use apps that don't respect me when there are plenty of other options.

Primal has always been SUS. 🚩

I doubt they're doing it to be nefarious. It's probably used to see what their users want or how they're using the app to help find tune the experience. For example, if most users are searching for images, then maybe Primal implements an image feed.

That's a fair point. They may not collect data in the traditional sense, but this does seem to be the opposite of what they're advertising in the app store.

Even if it's non-mefarious telemetry, it should be optional and off by default.

I would agree there. Giving users a choice to opt out of these types of tracking would be optimal. Maybe we can ask them for this?

If they answer

And the fact that this was never mentioned to begin with seems like another red flag.

This is actually the norm in the tech startup space. I think their team is from miljan’s previous product they sold to microsoft. I doubt they care about user privacy or think about it (i mean i think thats clear)

I'm aware. And I agree with you on everything in regards to this matter. I was just hoping to never have to witness this kind of deceptive corporate behavior coming from a team who advertises their PLATFORM as one that doesn't collect data over a freedom protocol.

this is what ive said from the beginning.

Primal has a Silicon Valley douchebag ā€œbroā€ culture problem.

The integrity of projects with this root culture always, ALWAYS, falls apart.

They actually are not using the search data, and there is no reason for them to collect it that detailed considering the feature has been stable.

I am assuming good faith but it is becoming hard as they try to deflect any questions or blame.

I’m sure you have been recommending Primal this whole time, given that Damus onboarding scares users away from Nostr

4 default relays, only following Damus account, no feed right from the start.

Tough to recommend Damus…

Damus was my first Nostr experience. Could not have been easier.

I bounce between primal and Damus (writing from primal right now) but I’ve always preferred Damus. Now I might just ditch primal altogether

It's a web site/service: everything is tracked by default. You can somewhat mitigate things, but it's more, not less work

Wow! Good to know.

I agree. Primal has entered the capitalism dungeon.
