In my previous neighborhood I made the mistake of attempting to convince some neighbors to study #Bitcoin.

Needless to say, they were unable to be discrete and the entire neighborhood came to know my house as the #Bitcoin house.

It took a lot of damage control to reverse that, including lying about selling ("it was a good investment"), and ultimately, moving.

I no longer wear any Bitcoin swag, have any Bitcoin art in my home, or ever recommend Bitcoin IRL.

I went even further, upon introspection, deciding to eliminate all clothing logos and branding, all vehicle stickers, and anything that would signal political allegiance to any cause.

Put safety for your family above all.

Good op sec practice, thanks for sharing

I am known as the "crypto guy" at work after trying to convince my CEO to convert our treasury to bitcoin. Probably was a mistake. I'm giving it another year or two before I step down. I've already sold the house and moved to the country.

My best opsec was putting my property in my nephew's name (he lives here as well with his young family). It's difficult to tell now what I own.

Yeah, there's a reason I've avoided merch and branding at all costs.

Not trying to become a target.

I made the same mistake at the beginning, but today the higher the price of bitcoin rises, the more dangerous it will be to talk about it in public. People can attack you, thinking you're going to make a mint with less risk. It's better not to take any chances.

This all day! Wearing anything and "advertising" Bitcoin in public only makes you a target. I too have all but stopped talking about it to people unless they are willing to have an open mind and interested in learning about Bitcoin.

Even then I never discuss personal investments in any way.

Personally I don't want to be living in fear.

We are massively pro Trump, Extreme MAGA for lefties, and I did talk bitcoin a little to some neighbors.

If they ask since when did you start, I always say recently.

Also I live in a place where I have a lot of guns in my house. I carry most of the time too.

Surely the Honey Badger hat would be okay. Not like I am wearing it through an airport or anything.

I have also transitioned from orange pill proselytizing to gray man mode. If they didn't listen to me the first time, they are too blue pilled to trust now. We will hear about a high dollar amount $5 wrench attack in the media in the next few years, probably. I am a small fish, but why take a chance?

Wearing BTC apparel is such a bad idea.

It's like walking around with a target on your back 🎯

Always just be Bob The Builder /Couch Carter / Fisherman Frank, ...

Especially on the internet, absolutely no one needs to know your government name, formal email or phone number.

But it largely applies in your neighborhood and across the random acquaintances.

I think about it more as a common courtesy to others, not a paranoia.

Then they cry when you shitpost from a anon account.

Yep
