You don't need to stand firm against any opposing force. Such trees that do this, typically fall, due to their hardness, typically due to their age. But if you look at the rest that bend, you find they whether it just fine.

Bending does not mean obedience, like bending at the knee, rather, bending the mind to see behind it, where it comes from, why it pushes forward, a new perspective from a different angle.

A judgeless conversation with those who you oppose does more for your growth than reading a book on the subject.

We all want the same thing but were taught how to get it in different ways. Helping each other how to get there is the path to peace on this planet.
