Traditional journalism orgs relentlessly refuse to explain why link taxes are terrible policy. You can understand why: They want in on any possible gravy train. The bias in their reporting is grotesque.

Facial recognition products are a public menace -- but law enforcement (and private companies) are moving full speed ahead to ruin lives. Because they can. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/06/technology/facial-recognition-false-arrest.html

Musk is stiffing creditors right and left, so it's a genuine mystery why the suckers who signed up for "revenue sharing" on Twitter believe they'll get what they're supposedly owed.

(In the middle of the article there's a hilarious reference to the company's "CEO" -- a title that is, in this case, ridiculous.)

It's some years ago maybe that's why they don't have the paperback--OR, something's being covered up. I'm just as suspicious as you are, really. I'm convinced that Thomas has done some quid pro quo SCOTUS voting.

nostr:npub1lrvmc88ck63qpt734w85t5pnxchncvam0p9k9mueuezqz0grkn6s8jtth9 Theoretically there's nothing wrong with getting a loan from a friend, and he repaid it after 9 years, but ...he didn't REPORT it. Other things he's gotten away with are more suspect--likely to be basically bribes... Yes I think he needs to be subpoenaed.

nostr:npub18kne9vvc5y5f66xt20csfcdzqeqqkczfcnazm5utynrhrpw6sa5sg2dm0v Repaid? From the article: "He would not say how much he had lent Justice Thomas, how much the justice had repaid and whether any of the debt had been forgiven or otherwise discharged. He declined to provide The Times with a copy of a loan agreement — or even say if one existed. Nor would he share the basic terms of the loan, such as what, if any, interest rate had been charged or whether Justice Thomas had adhered to an agreed-upon repayment schedule."

The rank corruption of Clarence Thomas continues to be exposed, one sleazy item at a time.

How are we learning about this? Not from law enforcement or others who have subpoena power (e.g. Congress), but by journalists.

Latest example, from the NY Times. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/05/us/clarence-thomas-rv-anthony-welters.html?action=click&module=Well&pgtype=Homepage§ion=US%20News

Right wing activists aim for a fascist America, and this massively funded organization is one of the least-known extremist groups in the mix. Thank you, @propublica, for this look inside: https://www.propublica.org/article/leonard-leo-teneo-videos-documents

It is monumentally dangerous for Musk to have such control over satellite communications -- never mind the ancillary harms from SpaceX's putting what will eventually be so much debris into orbit -- but the US government has done absolutely nothing to mitigate the growing risks from this dominance. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/07/28/business/starlink.html

"Open"AI CEO tells Congress that his industry needs to be regulated. It does, no question.

But you can absolutely sure that what he and the other big players want is a system of regulatory capture (by them) in which they become a cartel that can't be challenged by upstarts.
