Tech, Africa, Bitcoin mining at Gridless. Kenya Relay: wss://nostr-1.nbo.angani.co

Already are mining here. :)

Bitcoin mining containers being built from scratch in Nairobi. Load testing soon. Mining incoming!

Got some more improvements done yesterday (our lines are getting closer, decreasing the dump load) on Gridless OS, our demand response software managing the miners.

Began implementing alerting to help monitoring.

Starlink for an hour. Gotta make sure people don’t stay online all the time when in the bush!

Back to Kenya after a week in Miami meeting people in-person for the first time. Great conversations, glad I went.

The real one. Good moms make a massive difference.

Busy week! Especially with the local Bitcoin community and a visiting college group. https://nostr.build/av/dcc4e935e831a4624034074a4dee6aad6e0d0ee42713b35bd773b9b8fcbf5276.mov

Village life.

Having electricity changes everything.

Minigrids make this happen in very remote areas.

Hot pot, refrigerator, TV, music player, and electric burner.

An evening in the tea fields of Malawi.

We could, but the ROI is very poor.

If we can find a way to do solid mining with solar it would be great, since so many minigrids here are based on solar.

Decided to test some solar at our place in Nairobi.

Here we have 2 of our Whatsminer M31s running off of 8kW of solar, running through 8 batteries (20kWH) to give us approx 2 more hours of hashing each day.

Will check the real numbers later, but we’re going to see if we can get 10+ hours per day off this setup.

Out for a muddy walk with the little dude.

Ok, very interested in this NIP for p2p trading of Bitcoin using Nostr.

https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/405

Need this badly. Will figure out how to get African engineers on it too.

Damn, Paxful going down sucks for Africans.

Looking forward to the Nostr and Bitcoin “roll your own” p20 Bitcoin future.

Is it #noones?

A good day out.

Lake Magadi, Kenya.

Whenever I fly above a nighttime America I’m always amazed, stunned, inspired by the amount of capital and infrastructure in this country.

So many cities that are alone larger in infrastructure than whole countries elsewhere.

I was in SF March 2020 when Trump closed international flights to the US.

I was in SF March 2023 when SVB imploded.

Guess I should stop visiting SF…

Back in the US. I'm in SF for a couple days, then Tennessee. Philip is off to Houston for Empower conference. Busy times!
