I honestly think a lot of people will just blindly follow along. I don’t know anyone irl here nor on the Fediverse. Most people just don’t seem to value their digital capital that much.
I do think SM will dissipate, we’ve already seen that with Fedi/BlueSky/Threads but a lot of people seem to want the next big thing.
I’ve been trying to convince my other half for years now and she still uses Meta products and has a lot of her research there. Even this morning I told her about how MTV just deleted their archives. Corporations are ephemeral entities, it’s not the place you want your work stored.
