In theory, human rights are universal, not dependent on nationality, race, sex, or citizenship status. In practice, the right to be treated as a human often hinges on a government permit or the color of your skin.
If human rights were truly universal, no one would need permission to work anywhere.
Migration policies and the protectionism of the labour force are cruel and unsustainable. They trap people in a cycle of despair and deny them the opportunity to contribute to society. If we truly want to live in a world of peace, these systems must change. We need policies that recognise the dignity and rights of all people, regardless of where they come from, and allow them to thrive rather than be held back.
