I like simple. Sending ecash by DM was also called a hack, but, heck, I like the simplicity. I also like the approach that all security is vested in protecting the nsec. Safeguards can be added in where required. The other thing I like is that login by DM and ecash by DM, I can implement without waiting for a nip. It's all about experimentation for now.
Same goes for nip04 and nip05. Simple. I'll manage the risks for now.

Have a look at https://npub.pro - it just went live yesterday. Also have a look at login with Nostr DM - it is beautifully simple and I am wondering why I never saw this possibility until now. In short, you enter in your nip05 address, it resolves the pubkey sends you an encrypted DM with a one-time-code, which you enter and you are logged in!
This makes me even more bullish for #nostr ... for any npub holder we can do pay-to-npub (sending ecash via encrypted dm) and now we can do login-with-npub.

All this talk about separating money from the state (which I agree with), but I think the far more important and immediate imperative is to separate money from identity.
With the shift to electronic payment systems, the unintended consequence was to combine identity with money into the ‘account’ concept which is basically a ledger with your name on it. People began to treat this as equivalent as money and voila, the state discovered a new lever with which to govern.
Now with #ecash, we now have the ability to separate identity from money and create digital bearer tokens that can exist outside of any one system as opposed to a ‘payment instruction’ that exists at the mercy of a payment system with your identity as the possible hostage.

Yeah, I have pretty much stopped posting (1 post in the last two months). I generally use my curated private lists for specific topics. The algorithm feed is too toxic.
My biggest takeaway is that 'control authority' is not about efficiency, it's about sovereign rooted in the physical realm.

When you design something simple and right, it doesn’t need to change. 
Totally agree. I refer it as 'out of band' versus offline because you can transmit ecash independently of any one system. The other systems are really 'payment instructions' versus bearer tokens.
Book was written in 2000. Brands was a student of Chaum. Likely this statement resulted from the failure of ecash at the time.
