yea, this is tragic. I have used them for years, primarily for history and genealogy research. now the books cant be downloaded for any length of time, and music comes in 30 second samples
We all know how this works. As of May 2023, CPI was over 10% when using the 1990 formula, compared to 4% then currently reported CPI -- a 6 % spread. Source: shadowstats.com. (unfortunately, out of date)
Using that same spread, today, 2.4% plus 6 % equals 8.4% inflation. That is what your assets need to grow in order for you to just break even.
Government just announced 2.5 % increase in COL for Social Security. The fixed income for retirees is significantly eroding, given (hidden) inflation.
This goes a long way in explaining the growing wealth gap in USA. Doesnt really matter who is in charge, as long as the systemic government process is operative.
The Government has an incentive to inflate, that has always been the case with deficit financed fiat currencies.
