If life is defined with metabolism, sure. Many organisms have metabolism, across the kingdoms. So then is it consciousness? Lots of organisms are conscious. What sets apart human life? Meaning? Potential? Experience?

You make excuses when you don't wanna admit you're wrong. What they're doing is actively justifying their actions like it's the right thing to do

There is no marble. There is not really a whole object that consciousness "is". Consciousness is an emergent phenomenon that is a consequence of numerous tangled, stacked, matryoshka'd sensation-analysis feedback loops in a brain.

Doug Hofstadter wrote a couple books about the nature of consciousness, "Gödel, Escher, Bach" and "I Am a Strange Loop". I think they're pretty good shots at the truth. He describes an emergent phenomenon he encountered when grabbing a stack of empty envelopes. When holding the whole stack, it felt as if there were a marble hiding within. But there was no marble. Each envelope is 2 layers of paper thick over most of its surface area,, right? But at the point where the tip of the closure flap overlaps the bottom, there's a small point of 3 layers. Compounded over the whole group, it felt like a hiding solid object.

I hope I made a somewhat understandable explanation.

I'm sure enjoying this place but sometimes I worry I'm this guy and you're all the cool kids

GM legends, it's coffee o'clock

Well yeah I have this now. I don't scroll over there now but I do wanna go back and evangelize about nostr though

Oh I don't know really. Recently TikTok pushed me into meltology/tartaria etc offshoots, including all mountains are giants, or even dragons haha. And marble and limestone are actually crystalized/hardened mycelial growth. Wacky stuff
