I am tigs and I like to stream games and other stuff. Jack of all trades, master of none. But a master of none is better than a master of one.

You know it's coming. It's just a matter of time. Somewhere nab the idea already and run with it 🤣

Good stuff! Thank you builders!

Oh and the feeling of lightning payments is amazing... but I utilize it for online transactions and zapping primarily; so to see our collective vision and dreams regarding Bitcoin and it working as a superior currency come to fruition through the hard labor of so many was truly outstanding. Going to be a pivotal moment in my life for sure.

Attended the first ever Bitcoin Meetup at the Fox Hotel in Melbourne, Australia last night and it was truly awesome to see the dedication and sanity in everybody very clearly. If you live in Victoria, then I highly suggest you come along to these monthly (?) meetups organized by the most dedicated bitcoiner I know personally.

Also the place has been orange pilled and they accept lightning now! Paying for over ~100 different beers or getting your friends back for shouting you has never been easier and quicker when you're actually at the counter. It's quicker and easier than dealing with physical cash and the near instant settlement of money makes it clearly the merchant's choice at the end of the day.

The feeling of drinking your first drink by paying with Lightning was surreal and something akin to making your first bitcoin transaction ever.

Did it work?? Is this real!?

We just actually exchanged money didn't we?

Why the fuck is the rest of the world not using this technology!

How do we orange pill everybody?

Cannot wait to see if https://voltpay.app/ is going to be rocking at the next function so bolt cards can be used.

Good times were had by all and the actual enthusiasm for Nostr and actually exchanging our contact details was great to see. Only had to give out my actual npub once over telegram while every other encounter was flawless! 🧡💜🤙

To many more! And thank you Clodagh for hosting us! True bitcoiner and Nostr spirit in her as a self-thinking individual :)

Precisely how I kinda felt when the actual implications of a blockchain existing meant for humanity in the long run. It's cemented our place in the stars.

Decided to go with this for my next android based phone. Might not be for another year or two but I’ll be looking out! nostr:note18hjp0ppwqvndw42a2jw9c3mmc78em6wqqe77vv2ch09rjrye4zksf3mmqt

Great question...

GrapheneOS and CalyxOS are much different. GrapheneOS is a hardened OS with substantial privacy and security improvements:

https://grapheneos.org/features

CalyxOS is not a hardened OS. It substantially reduces security. It recently went 2 months not shipping standard security patches.

Compatibility with Android apps on GrapheneOS is also much different. GrapheneOS provides our sandboxed Google Play compatibility layer:

https://grapheneos.org/usage#sandboxed-google-play

Can run the vast majority of Play Store apps on GrapheneOS, but not CalyxOS with the problematic microG approach.

CalyxOS is closer to LineageOS they both share the same issue above and they both always use multiple Google services too while giving them privileged access even if users don't use microG. It would be wrong to imply they don't use Google services. microG is of course an implementation of Google services. GrapheneOS doesn't use Google services by default.

To clarify further they always use Google services even without microG. They use Google for connectivity checks, network time, attestation key provisioning, SUPL, DNS fallback (LineageOS only), PSDS (Pixel 6 and 7), eSIM activation and more enabled by default.

https://blog.privacyguides.org/2022/04/21/grapheneos-or-calyxos/ is a 3rd party article explaining some of the substantial differences between GrapheneOS and CalyxOS. It's a common misconception that they're similar. CalyxOS is far more similar to LineageOS than GrapheneOS. There are many other alternate OSes available.

https://privsec.dev/posts/android/choosing-your-android-based-operating-system/ is another article about privacy and security differences between alternative Android-based operating systems.

If you have any questions though you know where I am, always happy to help. Take care and be well.

Amazing write up ✍️!

I honestly had no idea my Calyx was so dependant on google services! Comes as quite a bit of a shock tbh!

I think i’m definitely sold on GrapheneOS for my next phone now.

One last question, does GrapheneOS operate on all android phones past a certain point or can it be a nuisance to source a decent device?

Many thanks 🙏

sounds quiet awesome actually, thanks for the write up! Will most definitely research and most likely try when the EoL for my Pixel arrives.

So you mentioned you and the missus have old phones but it runs great… how old are we talking? I’m rocking a pixel4a at times but fear it’s longevity. Is GrapheneOS installable on any phone then? Not just locked to Google Pixels like CalyxOS?

That would be very cool!

Good friend, #[0] , orange pilled the owner of this fine drinking establishment with over a 100 beers available apparently (#[1] cc)!

We’ve somehow managed to get the owner to also let us host our Bitcoin meetups at their drinking hole and last I checked ⚡️is available and so are bolt cards!

In for a good night with good people, it ain’t Miami but it’s needed 😁
