My husband (nostr:npub1py0k8atj3w9l4kldt5fwee74phpn9265y6g46p8v2zp7p5fwkqvq3e2dqu on Mastodon) does this regularly and has even named many of the flock that lives nextdoor.

nostr:npub1hkaudhakz9gr497svugp3rpny8s24j9fhm20frtsreslkaex37jslwjmnl It is an actual photo of a toy I own... purchased at Toys-R-Us years ago. I carried it around in the trunk of my car, bringing it out to serve as my muse when I was in a creative lull and needed something interesting to shoot.

The series Dad! was made as a run-up to Father's Day, I think in 2011 or 2012..

Took some searching to find this (Mastodon needs a search tool)...

WALL-E also appeared in a series I called Love is Love.

Godzilla was also a toy I carried around for photoshoots.

I don't think I ever posted the full picture that appears in my masthead. It's part of a series of photos I took a decade ago, entitled "Dad!"

(Nice job, Juan. This is a really swell shot. Bob)

I didn't know you loved them, Bob. Thank you. I much rather be shooting on the streets of a US city. Vegas would be the ideal for me now. And I wouldn't set foot inside.

nostr:npub15074264qfye8gc2u9s3fdn2cq23x90mx372fluj8ff48hj22zrzqh7e4gg Yup to Vegas. Retro signs, neon, trashy culture.

Learning curves . Oy.

So one thing you quickly learn about the Polaroid is its viewfinder is a separate thing. It sits up and to the left of the shutter's lens.

This means you cannot predict nor control where the focus will land.

It also means you cannot aim the camera precisely. What you see won't be perfectly aligned with what the camera captures. In fact, the closer you are to your subject, the more misaligned your view will be.

So your pictures will either be frustratingly imperfect or wonderfully amusing, depending on how fussy you are. I'm okay with that. Polaroids are an excuse to stop caring.

But here's the thing: the separate viewfinder means you can't easily tell when the lens cap is still on the camera. I took 4 blank shots last Thursday, at $2 a pop. Dopey me!

Anyway, feel free to admire the beauty of pigeons in flight in the second picture below.

nostr:npub1wg4azfy2fnke6v692u8adyx3vqp0v9eyvfjujzp7ct52fwcsz82qln05nf Add: today is brutally foggy and windy. We just got blasted in the Safeway Diamong Heights parking lot.

Gargoyle, with San Francisco street and window lights in the background.

As with the previous shot, this was also taken with the Pentax 50mm f/1.4 lens at f/4.0. Nice bokeh of the distant lights.
