This guy is surprisingly coherent for someone with schizophrenia and I say that as someone who worked in a behavioral crisis center. Yeah his story is themed like a paranoid schizophrenic narrative though, but he spoke in pretty full sentences. I've had moments on acid where I was less coherent than he was in terms of speech.
However he seems quickly defensive when the woman points out she wasn't American, which seems to indicate he understands there is a gravity to this event that he might not have considered when he acted. He also has a memory of the event, which again, shows some type of general coherence. He wasn't blacked out or totally lost. He knew it was a woman too.
I don't know how long after the incident this recording was taken, so it will be hard to make further clinical evaluations of his mental state at the time.
