We can't trust the federal government to make sure the federal government doesn't break the rules. Although I would prefer the people to be in charge, it isn't practical. We need the states to be able to overrule anything the Federal government does and punish any federal politicians who break their oaths. Although it isn't explicit, I believe that was the understanding when the constitution was written. We need to get back to the states being a check on the federal government instead of purely subservient to the federal government. Going back to states appointing senators would also help.

The problem is that a piece of paper is insufficient to support the implementation of the penalties, no matter how severe they may be. That's why the founders set it up so that they would great the people. The fingers knew that if the government stopped fearing the actual people no piece of paper would ever do it for us.

I'm starting to think that one of the big problems with America's Constitution is that the penalties for violating constitutional rights are insufficient.

For example, if you violate the constitutional rights of millions of Americans, perhaps that should be worthy of the guillotine. Even if you're the president.

Just spitballing; all I'm sure of is that those in power are not sufficiently afraid of violating our rights.

Oh, it absolutely sucked and was boring as hell. Honestly, I learned most of that stuff from my parents before I ever encountered it in school. I aced every single spelling test I ever took.

Few people realize how under-utilized power generation in the world is. Power generation MUST be built for peak loads, even though most of the time they don't see anywhere close to that level of consumption.

Think about that for a moment. It's like having a business that has to build a factory capable of producing multiples more product than it can sell at any given moment.

This is part of why our power infrastructure has been slowly degrading and why there has been so little new investment in the space. It's just a very tough business model.

Bitcoin change this. The ability for Bitcoin miners to be installed anywhere with an internet connection and rapidly turn on and off in response to demand makes it an ideal load balancer and gives power generators the possibility to monetize all that extra generation capacity, which can be reinvested into infrastructure and new generation capacity.

It's a beautifully virtuous cycle that helps to raise the average load, and the margins of power generating businesses and gives us all more access to power, at cheaper prices.

you do realise that nostr has mostly rights/far rights who predisposed assumptions on how women should be right ? I've had many attacks here , I led most of it slide and I've just never spoken up until now. I've got nothing against you - and there are some great men here i've enjoyed talking to and have healthy and fun conversations. But it is not wrong pointing out the obvious. If that offends you, i can't do much about it. But i hope you will want more people of all areas. My hope is that Nostr becomes the public square it has the potential to be and democracy will be about people talking to people, despite their differences. To achieve that, it needs people from all corners of the world. I have said the same thing all throughout.

Benchmarking Nostr event parsing in JavaScript ("leaner" means a very simple and performant binary format):

If these results are right (I'm not sure they are) that means JavaScript is very not-great-at-all dealing with binary things and if Nostr events were designed to be binary from the get go that would entail a massive performance loss for web, react-native and JavaScript clients of all sorts.
