I had the news on BBC Sounds playing audio on my phone early this morning, and the presenter said "Good morning to you, if you are watching*", and I thought, well that's a bit exclusionary.

*Could have been "listening", I wasn't paying *that* much attention.

...

* Old security system triggered its alarms when power was restored. Fixed by removing mains fuse and removing batt. Seems outside alarm box had no separate batt (or it's dead), thank goodness!

The server (Lenovo M53) boots OK but no LAN. New bare bones chassis + PSU coming from eBay for £35.

Could have been worse.

Wife's office bldg was hit by lightning mid week. Today we went to take a look:

* No outlet power - tripped MCB.

* IoT server (not biz critical) - blown network interface.

* 200Mbit Home plug dead. Took in apart at home - insides charred. Had a spare.

Bought an ESP32-based Cheap Yellow Display (CYD) with touch screen to have a play. Found an excellent tutorial for a simple weather display at https://randomnerdtutorials.com/esp32-cyd-lvgl-weather-station/ then added a clock, network info, NTP time sync and a few other changes.

Turned on my big Android-based lounge TV for the first time in 6 months (that says a lot!) and of course there's a 1.2GB update to download and install.

Reckon it'll be 30 mins before I can watch anything or throw my laptop screen onto the Tele.

Remind me why I hate 'smart' TVs so much.

Just an infrequent reminder that there's a UK-oriented #Meshtastic Subreddit that's always on the lookout for relevant contributions to help grow its user base.

One of our cheap USB desk fans has blown its PWM chip - a tiny, 6-pin SOT-23 device. I've bypassed the board so the fan runs.

The chip's on AE @ 10 for 95p. I know dismantling the fan again, removing the PCB and using a heat gun to remove/replace the chip will be hassle, but it's gotta be done! https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/0c9e326b79ab7a99143aedfad7816891f7af4703cc3b5fa33f6632d70428d9af/199c404c662460912ac8ee7e02f582e719bcf872135ca6e1080da4e06eeee9bb.webp https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/0c9e326b79ab7a99143aedfad7816891f7af4703cc3b5fa33f6632d70428d9af/5b609ef316b33c99dcbb17125d47252997e8d6be8be5325e0c63c7192dc38bac.webp

My poor Atom 360 box is doing its best at being an IoT server. Startup is always the hardest part - see pic.

It's hot here in West Sussex. The box itself is one fan down at the moment and tells me the CPU temp is 77C. The shutdown temp is 85C and it made it to 84C this afternoon. https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/0c9e326b79ab7a99143aedfad7816891f7af4703cc3b5fa33f6632d70428d9af/93c593eff5d46f14d162d26b030b6686b381303df813149da00c1c2c2b09c5f3.webp

Reaching the end of a 1 week experiment in vibe coding in Appsmith. Lots of REST API and SQL + UI design. I've not done heavy data coding for a while but I know my algorithms.

Conclusions:

* CopyPasta doesn't stick as a training method.

* I had to AI iterate through duff code - a lot.

I'm doing an eval. of the app development framework Appsmith, with a need to integrate data views & updates between database and REST API calls. Any others worth looking at, preferably Open Source or with a Community version?

(Ignoring the fact they've drunk the AI Kool-Aid)

Who's been playing Equinoxe Pt. 5 in my head all this afternoon?

/Sorry, you've probably got it too now.

Wait, what!?

Y'know, AliExpress vendor, when I buy a 10m cable, I kinda expect it to actually be somewhat close to 10m in length.

I'm funny that way. https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/0c9e326b79ab7a99143aedfad7816891f7af4703cc3b5fa33f6632d70428d9af/d9a28507ecc34979eadbdb1cf1d31891817bccff0dd567a6b2a822e4fb80ef18.webp

My #Meshtastic dev node is sitting on a windowsill by an open window, but there's no real airflow. It has a BMP280 temp sensor...

Eek! https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/0c9e326b79ab7a99143aedfad7816891f7af4703cc3b5fa33f6632d70428d9af/03868b028a36b226080507151e1f1251dbfabac3df0f81417fc2e076c123e491.webp

I've just been debugging a failing REST API GET call that was returning an unexpected and cryptic error.

Hey, person who gave me the code snippet - that there should be a CAPITAL B.

...Web input boxes for, say, email addresses or postcodes that warn you with bright red letters that the input is not valid BEFORE you start typing and WHILE you're typing and haven't finished.

/Pet peeve done.

They're still sending this evening - less frequently, but still. https://cdn.nostrcheck.me/0c9e326b79ab7a99143aedfad7816891f7af4703cc3b5fa33f6632d70428d9af/ffc9c1d65f4e4f8a88ea261ec5d479765c203dda2061b41a7a09e3b9f1eb3c75.webp

I've just spent a couple of hours trying to Vibe Code a SharePoint Power App, bouncing between ChatGPT & Claude. Result: Close but no working code, and a few hallucinated dead ends.

Task: Monitor a folder for new docs & make PDFs using the SharePoint REST API (No premium PDF plugins available).
