Survival Medications
In a survival SHTF situation food and water may only be available from questionable sources.
Diarrhea and nausea can kill in short order, and least weaken you when you can not afford it.
I pack over the counter meds such as Benadryl for allergies, Dramamine for nausea, Immodium AD for Diarrhea, Tylenol for pain. I also add Triple antibiotic ointment and bandaids. A pack of Quickclot finishes it out. Don't forget your prescription medication and keep a copy of the prescription with them for the police should you be stopped and searched.

Survival Home Security
Doors and windows are weak points in a home.
Doors are most targeted by thieves and especially the home invaders.
To strengthen the door, remove the screws on the hinges at the door and the frame, one at a time and replace them with 8" deckscrews.
Do the same with the strike plate and latch.
Add screws in the frame to attache it well into the wall studs. The screws that come with Doors are pitiful.
If you have a wood door, then place a steel reinforcement plate at the door latch to reinforce that weak area as well.
Inside you can add a security bar across the door.
It will not stop a determined invader, but it will make a lot of noise, and slow their entry. This gives you warning and time to retrieve a weapon and call for the police.
I keep a pistol in my pocket 24/7 just for such an occasion. Also keep a large prybar at each door, a loaded Mossberg Shockwave with 5 X 12 gauge 3" 1oz slugs. Just case they bad guys have body armor.

Survival Knife
A survival knife should be chosen with multiple uses in mind. First: cleaning and taking game.
Second: Fighting predators both four legged and two legged. Think of the Bowie Knife.
Choose with this in mind.
I have seen many knife fights in the prison system over more than 30 years.
Lesser knives blade will break when striking bone. The edges will dull.
The survival knife needs be strong, sword sharp, and made in one piece. The blade should be at least 9 inches in length measured from the half. This is to reach vital organs. The haft needs to be a true full tang, not rat tail and not half or less.
Sword sharp means a steeper angle to the edge at around 40 degrees to prevent the edge from rolling on bone. The blade should not have a saw on the back. The saw will hang up in the predator. The blade should be 1/4" in thickness for strength. Hollow ground edges slice but not deeply, sabre grind and scandi grinds are a good compromise. The convex grind is a deep and strong slicer.
The point is the weak spot and should not be too thin, and targets need to be chosen for lack of bone, hanging gear, beltbuckets, etc...
Blades with fullers are a little lighter and retains strength. They are not blood grooves.
The sheath needs to have good retention.
A knife needs maintenance, oiling, tightening scales, etc...
Avoid like the plague
Blades or grips with holes machined through them, or gut hooks or bottle cap removers.
At 21 feet a man with a knife is deadlier than a man with a firearm.

Survival Navigation
The compass is a great though ancient means of Navigation. Can't really improve upon it.
If you have an analog watch it can be a nav aid.
during the day you can point the hour hand at the direction of the sun and draw an imaginary line through the cent and between the 12 o'clock position and the hour hand. This is the North South line. Spending on your location, north or south hemisphere which end is north.
Remember to have your watch set to local real time. Not day light savings time.
Survival Packing Tip

I also can not find the perfect GHB. I have 25 miles to walk to get home if my vehicle is not operational. Such as from an EMP strike.
I am old but in fair shape. Can definitely miss a meal or three. Walking a few miles gets the back and hips hurting. My back geared for 6 day camping/hiking to get back home. It is now heavy at #30 lbs. If I knew I could walk it in 1 or 2 days, I would pack less than 12 lbs. Fast and light. I can thrive in the forest and so would take time getting back. So I pack heavy.
Survival Bag Tip
If you pack a firearm in your Bug Out Bag or Get Home Back, don't forget a small bottle of oil, rag and string for cleaning.
I use a small Tabasco bottle like what is included in military MREs. An old bandana and string for making a pull patch for the barrel, and oily cotton sock. I keep all in a quart size zip lock freezer bag. Gun oil is good but chain saw oil or 2 cycle engine oil is great.
WD-40 is good to wipe down the blued steel parts but not for the action. WD-40 stands for Water Displacement formula 40. It a as invented to prevent rust on the Titan ICBMs. It will evaporate leaving a very thin coat of paraffin wax. WD-40 will over time gum up your firearm action.
