The Secret Lagoon In El Nido
Secret Lagoon, Miniloc Island 🌊🏝️
El Nido, Palawan, Philippines.

It’s no secret that El Nido has been blessed with more than its fair share of postcard-perfect scenic locations.
From majestic limestone formations jutting out from crystal clear turquoise seas to powdery white sandy beaches along its coastlines, not to mention the sheer diversity of marine wildlife in its perfectly hued oceans, it's no wonder foreign publications have declared it the best beach and island destination in the Philippines.

Secret Lagoon is just one of the many attractions in El Nido. As soon as your boat docks near the lagoon, your guide will direct you to a small opening hidden between a towering wall of limestone rocks by the seashore. It’s easy to miss this secret spot, and most people wonder if it's possible to crawl through this tiny hole.

But once you get through it, you’ll be greeted by an unusual sight: a massive limestone rock formation surrounding a small body of water. This awe-inspiring scenery lends an otherworldly experience for visitors.

Depending on where your boat is parked, you’ll find more secret coves and hidden white sand beaches in the areas surrounding Secret Lagoon. Take your time to look around beyond the tiny opening to Secret Lagoon, and you’ll be rewarded with more spectacular nooks and crannies waiting to be discovered.

Boscoreale treasure: A ring of skeletons.
These two silver Roman drinking cups were buried by its owner prior to the eruption of volcano Vesuvius in 79 CE and unearthed 1800 years later at a villa near Pompeii.

They are ornamented with skeletons of famous poets and Greek philosophers beneath a garland of roses. The choice of a ring of skeletons to decorate these cups is not macabre, but is - on the contrary - a hymn to life, an incitement to enjoy the PRESENT.
Greek inscriptions engraved in dots form captions, and are accompanied by Epicurean maxims such as: "Enjoy life while you can, for tomorrow is uncertain!" (In Greek: ΖΩΝ ΜΕΤΑΛΑΒΕ ΤΟ ΓΑΡ ΑΥΡΙΟΝ ΑΔΗΛΟΝ ΕCΤΙ), "The highest good is Pleasure" ( TO TEΛΟC HΔΟΝΗ) or "Life is a theatre" (CKHNH O BIOC) etc.

The Colosseum, an enduring symbol of ancient Roman engineering, was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian in AD 72 and completed under his son, Titus, in AD 80.
With its grand elliptical structure and towering tiers, it once hosted gladiatorial games and public spectacles, accommodating up to 80,000 spectators.
Despite enduring centuries of damage from natural disasters and human activity, the Colosseum still stands as a remarkable feat of architecture and remains one of Rome’s most visited cultural landmarks, attracting millions of tourists each year.

"Der Sandmann" (translated as "The Sandman") is a short story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, first published in 1816 as part of his collection titled "Nachtstücke" (Night Pieces). The story is a blend of horror and psychological drama, exploring themes of obsession, identity, and the nature of reality.
The narrative centers around Nathanael, a young man who becomes obsessed with the figure of the Sandman, a mythical character who is said to steal the eyes of children. This obsession is fueled by his childhood trauma related to the mysterious figure of Coppelius, who Nathanael believes is the Sandman. As the story unfolds, Nathanael's mental state deteriorates, leading him to question the nature of his reality and the people around him, particularly his love interest, Olimpia, who he discovers is actually an automaton.
"The Sandman" delves into the complexities of the human psyche, particularly the thin line between sanity and madness. Hoffmann uses rich symbolism and a dreamlike narrative style to create an atmosphere of unease and fascination. The story raises questions about perception, the nature of love, and the fear of the unknown, making it a significant work in the genre of Gothic literature.
Hoffmann's exploration of the dangers of unchecked imagination and the impact of childhood fears resonates with readers, contributing to the story's lasting influence in literature and its adaptations in various forms, including opera and film. The character of Nathanael has been interpreted as a representation of the Romantic artist, grappling with the tension between reality and fantasy.

The Old House on the Rock, Ulten Valley, South Tyrol, Italy
"Hauserl am Stein" is one of the most fascinatingly odd buildings in all of South Tyrol. Its history, in fact, sounds a bit like a fairy tale.

A long time ago, just below St. Pankraz in Ulten Valley many small farm houses were situated at the banks of the Falschauer brook. In 1882 the river was flooded and took every single house with it, apart from one.
The legendary Hauserl am Stein, in fact, had been built by pure accident on a gigantic rock which only became visible after the floods.

I woke up to the morning sky, first
Baby blue, just like we rehearsed
When I get up off this ground
I shake leaves back down to the brown, brown, brown, brown
'Til I'm clean
Then I walk where I'd be shaded by the trees
By a meadow of green
For about a mile
I'm headed to town, town, town, in style
With all my favorite colors, yes, sir
All my favorite colors, right on
My sisters and my brothers
See 'em like no other
All my favorite colors
It's a good day to be
A good day for me
A good day to see
My favorite colors, colors
My sisters and my brothers
They see 'em like no other
All my favorite colors
Now take me to other side
Little bitty blues bird flies
And gray clouds, or white walls, or blue skies
We gon' fly, feel alright
And we gon' (Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh), yeah
It sound like (Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh), yeah
The least I can say, I anticipate
A homecoming parade as we renegade
In the morning, right on
With all my favorite colors, yes, sir
All my favorite colors, yes, ma'am
My sisters and my brothers
See 'em like no other
All my favorite colors
All my favorite colors, right
All my favorite colors, yes, ma'am
My sisters and my brothers
See 'em like no other
All my favorite colors
It's a good day to be
A good day for me
A good day to see my favorite colors, colors
My sisters and my brothers
They see 'em like no other
All my favorite colors

Why do I deserve the science to feel better about you?
Why do I deserve the science to feel better about you?
At a loss I lost my cool
I denied that I found you
I tried to be a basket case
I did not surprise you
I'm trying to find a signal fire
Let me know when I should move
But you, amplified in the silence
Justified in the way you make me bruise
Magnified in the science
Anatomically proved that you don't need me
Why do I desire the space?
I was mourning after you
I was lost and lost my shape
There was nothing I could do
I don't want to waste away
It was all I gave to you
Take me back and take my place
I will rise right up for you
But you, amplified in the silence
Justified in the way you make me bruise
Magnified in the science
Anatomically proved that you don't need me
All the while you waste away, you're asking
"Did I really need another one to take me down?"
Everybody knows it's something that you had to live with darling
Nobody's gonna tear you down now
There is nothing you keep, there is only your reflection
There was nothing but quiet retractions
And families pleading, "Don't look in that cabinet,
There's far more bad than there's good, I don't know how it got there"
That was something your father had burned in me
Twenty hours out of Homestake eternity
"You can go anywhere but you are where you came from"
Little girl you are cursed by my ancestry
There is nothing but darkness and agony
I can not only see, but you stopped me from blinking
Let me watch you as close as a memory
Let me hold you above all the misery
Let me open my eyes and be glad that I got here.....
