I felt a Funeral, in my Brain: A Poem by Emily Dickinson
I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading - treading - till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through -
And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a Drum -
Kept beating - beating - till I thought
My mind was going numb -
And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then Space - began to toll,
As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange Race,
Wrecked, solitary, here -
And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down -
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing - then -
Emily Dickinson

In ancient times Fucine Lake in Abruzzo, central Italy, was a large endorheic lake with no natural outflow. The lake provided fish and fertile soil but was also the source of malaria and frequently flooded, so the Romans tried to drain the entire basin.
To accomplish this ambitious goal, Roman Emperor Claudius commissioned the construction of a system of canals, tunnels, and wells between 41 and 52 CE. Over 30,000 slaves and workmen are believed to have manually dug the tunnel system.
The main underground canal is a little over three miles (six kilometers) long and was the longest tunnel of its time until the construction of the Fréjus Rail Tunnel in 1871.

That reminds me of back in the day, when my grandma used to ask for a kiss. I would agree on the caveat that there would be "no tongues involved"
This would be an ideal book for anyone to read in the spirit of this thesis.

St. George was born to a Greek Christian noble family in Lydda in Palestine and became an officer in the Roman army.
In the year 302 AD. the Emperor Diocletian issued an edict that every Christian soldier in the army should be arrested and every other soldier should offer a sacrifice to the Roman gods of the time.
However, George objected, and and in front of his fellow soldiers he claimed himself to be a Christian and declared his worship of Jesus Christ. Diocletian attempted to convert George, even offering gifts of land, money and slaves if he made a sacrifice to the Roman gods.
George never accepted and was executed by decapitation in the Greek city of Nicomedia in Asia Minor, on 23rd April 303. His body was returned to his birthplace of Lydda for burial, where Christians soon came to honour him as a martyr.
The episode of St. George and the Dragon was a legend brought back with the Crusaders.
In the legend, a dragon or crocodile makes its nest at the spring that provides water for the city of “Silene”. Consequently, the citizens have to dislodge the dragon from its nest for a time, to collect water. To do so, each day they offer the dragon at first a sheep, and if no sheep can be found, then a maiden is the best substitute for one. The victim is chosen by drawing lots.
One day, this happens to be the princess. The king begs for her life to be spared, but to no avail. She is offered to the dragon, but then St. George appears on his travels. He faces the dragon, protects himself with the sign of the cross, slays the dragon, and rescues the princess. The citizens abandon their ancestral paganism and convert to Christianity.
He did not rise to the position of “patron saint” of England until the 14th century, and he was still obscured by Edward the Confessor, the traditional patron saint of England, until the Reformation in 1552.
The “Colours of Saint George” are a white flag with a red cross.
St. George’s emblem was adopted by King Richard The Lion Heart and brought to England in the 12th century.
His cross forms the national flag of England, and features within the Union Flag of the United Kingdom.

"Have you ever wondered why children are no longer taught to write in cursive?"
And no, it is not by chance that they tend to use it less and less.
Writing in cursive means translating thoughts into words; it forces you to not take your hand off the paper. A stimulating effort, which allows you to associate ideas, link them and put them in relation. Not by chance does the word cursive come from the Latin "currere", which runs, which flows, because thought is winged, it runs, it flies.
Of course, cursive has no place in today's world, a world that does everything possible to slow down the development of thought, to fill it.
I think cursive was born in Italy and then spread throughout the world. Why? Because it was compact, elegant, clear writing.
But ours is a society that no longer has time for elegance, for beauty, for complexity; we have synthetics but not clarity, speed but not efficiency, information but not knowledge!
In general, we know too much and too little because we are no longer (generally speaking) able to put things into relation.
Most people can no longer think.
This is why we should go back to writing in cursive, especially at school. Because this is not just about recovering a writing style, but about giving breath to our thoughts again.
Everything that makes us live, that feeds the soul, that sustains the spirit, is connected to breathing. Without breath, as the ancient Greeks said, there is no thought. And without thoughts there is no life.

The Ancient Grabens: A Hidden Geological Marvel in Utah's Canyonlands
Nestled within Utah's Canyonlands National Park lies an extraordinary geological phenomenon known as the Ancient Grabens. Stretching an impressive 16 miles and descending as much as 246 feet, these formations reveal a captivating narrative of natural forces over millions of years.
Imagine a time 300 million years ago when a massive inland sea enveloped the area that is now the American Southwest. As this primordial sea gradually receded, it left a legacy beyond mere memories – it formed substantial layers of salt deposits, some exceeding a thousand meters in thickness. Over countless years, nature added its own artistry, depositing alternating layers of limestone, sandstone, mudstone, and siltstone, which collectively painted the landscape in breathtaking hues of red, white, gray, and brown.
However, the true wonder lies beneath the surface. Deep within, the salt layer acted like a slow-moving fluid under immense pressure – a phenomenon known to scientists as “salt tectonics.” As the land slowly shifted toward the canyons, this salt layer functioned as a natural lubricant, causing the rigid rocks above to fracture and shift. Some sections of land subsided while others elevated, resulting in the striking trenches and plateaus that characterize the landscape today.

On Oct. 11, 1974, a 31-year-old film school dropout from Austin released a homegrown horror flick that he just hoped would get Hollywood’s attention.
He got his wish. Shot in the blistering summer heat in and around Round Rock, Texas, using a borrowed 16mm camera, a cast of complete unknowns and a mask fashioned from what appeared to be human skin, Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre would spin a bargain-basement budget of $140,000 into more than $30 million at the box office, making it — at least for a while — the most successful independent film of all time.
