Tobacco, divine, rare, superexcellent tobacco, which goes far beyond all their panaceas, potable gold, and philosopher’s stones, a sovereign remedy to all diseases. A good vomit, I confess, a virtuous herb, if it be well qualified and opportunely taken, and medicinally used, but as it is commonly abused by most men, which take it as tinkers do ale, β€˜tis a plague, a mischief, a violent purger of goods, lands, health; hellish, devilish and damned tobacco, the ruin and overthrow of body and soul. Here, however, it is medicinally taken.

I'm not sure what you mean... if you mean you want to spend BTC, Start9 accepts bitcoin through BTCpay and will scrub your order info after shipping if you request it

Or just download EmbassyOS for free and flash it onto an old x86 machine (though their *excellent* support is primarily for paying customers)

...The effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

--George Eliot, β€œMiddlemarch”

(Final epigraph in Terence Malick's "A Hidden Life")

Ahh I understand better now, alls well that ends well.

Most banking apps will work, they just require sandboxed Play Services to be present in the main.

There is a resource at https://privsec.dev/posts/android/banking-applications-compatibility-with-grapheneos/

However would advise also checking/searching the issue tracker too for more updates that may not be listed at present. https://github.com/PrivSec-dev/banking-apps-compat-report/issues

NFC Pay is available but as you say not GPay, a lot of French banking apps for example implement their own version, as well as European users of Curve where GPay isn't available have access to Curve Pay. Stocard used to also implement it via their own top up virtual card but they deprecated the feature.

GPay works every now and then but Google soon does something to the back end that breaks it again.

Regards zaps yeah unfortunately the project doesn't have lightning and I am not here to profit from the dev teams work. There are crypto donation methods available at grapheneos.org/donate though. Lightning is on the roadmap but having just incorporated as a non profit until donation channels have all migrated it won't be set up for the moment.

Glad we got to connect though.

I did donate to GrapheneOS after installing! I should probably donate after each update, too.

Good to know about the wallet. And if you set up for zaps, no one will assume you're here to profit, just to participate in this great new world of Nostr and all the capacities it enables!!

Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to. β€”Theodore Dalrymple

I'd zap you some sats but you're not set up yet πŸ˜‰

I completely agree, actually. I should've used another word than "polished". As far as look and feel, GrapheneOS is impressive. It's my first time using Android so I would guess my comparison on UX is to iOS and all its very slick (and invasive) setup experience and app store. I had to go through the process of figuring out the Android equivalent to all my apps, and as much as possible to go open source. This has made things a little clunkier and less functional (e.g. no NFC wallet) and many banking apps don't work I'm told, but after putting in a little extra work I am enjoying a similar level of functionality to what I used to have on an iPhone without any of the privacy compromises. I would recommend it to anyone.

Happy Easter to you!

I keep it on low power mode all the time. It will go all day and then some, but I am not on it for much. Checking Nostr over lunch etc. But I've had no issues with background processes getting shut down. Very pleased with the battery, and of course the security and privacy of the OS.

GrapheneOS is just polished enough to get the necessary things done but not so polished that you end up wasting time on distractions.
