Make money sound again. Privacy is not a crime. Life. Liberty. Property.

For wannabe cyber sleuths:

Fascinating article about real-world #monero #xmr tracing a few years ago

Author states this would be harder to do now given recent changes to monero.

https://medium.com/@nbax/tracing-the-wannacry-2-0-monero-transactions-d8c1e5129dc1

Seeing this stat again: “…transactions can be traced in 60% of cases to get a usable lead.”

But what does that mean? Are they using pure chain analysis, or are they catching users at fiat on/off ramps? Are they raiding homes and finding wallets and seed phrases?

If the number is truly 60%, why aren’t we seeing more press releases about huge #monero #xmr takedowns like we do with other cryptos? Perhaps that will happen in the future, but for now I say it’s FUD.

#bitcoin is a great tool. It’s just not a great tool for #privacy. That may change with LN, or cashu, or perhaps even a layer one solution 🤷

For now, a better, simpler L1 solution for default financial privacy is #monero #xmr

When using cashu/ecash, who’s holding your nuts? Are you holding your nuts, or does someone else hold your nuts? Who custodies the nuts?

Yeah, he threw some numbers around like “60%”, but if monero is so traceable why haven’t we seen more stories about criminals getting busted due to said tracing.

We see stories like that all the time with other cryptos. I’m sure lawmen would crow pretty loudly if they could demonstrate the fallibility of XMR via tracing/tracking methods.

Accessed them with my Netscape browser through the university’s dial up. 56k modem, I think…wicked fast.
