The Voyager probes are amazing in many regards but they may ALSO be the longest continuously running computer programs (by some definitions). Each probe has three computers each of which has a backup. I wrote this eight years ago for MIT Technology Review: https://www.technologyreview.com/2015/08/06/166822/what-is-the-oldest-computer-program-still-in-use/
For more on Voyager probes, see these many articles I wrote about them, including an interview with the original and long-time project lead, Ed Stone. https://glog.glennf.com/blog/2017/8/4/if-you-love-voyager-like-i-love-voyager

Well, 2 of the 4 of us in this family managed to avoid COVID so far—#3 is now down (but just nasty cold symptoms). 3 1/2 years is a pretty good run of it (and all the shots and boosters). Hilarious that we did two weeks in Europe in June and my kid got it in Seattle, and we’re not sure where! They haven’t been many places in the last several days.

nostr:npub162dqndxn30uudg4ftllg9envelm6wa7045gse8aekd7z5lv27w2ska5lvt The article was nuanced—I thought it didn’t “reward” the theorists or let them off the hook but described how much more extreme and dangerous the new ones were. I remember the Satanic Cult Panic. A neighbor across the street was broken into in the 90s and her wisdom teeth were taken (she had them in an envelope that probably looked like jewelry). A cop said, “oh, these are used in satanic rituals.” !!!
nostr:npub1s69n4td37hpm4q2hf6ar4dj2e52lnyp0n3y50htyd9vqkw406v8qjql9l2 I mean, we apparently could have been wearing masks during flu season just in high-transmission situations (transit, medical contexts, etc.) and dramatically reduced its transmission and saved 10,000s of lives a year and 100,000s of hospitalizations…yet social norms prevented us. So we’ve slingshotted back to that. The article notes that COVID might reduce to flu levels of death…most of which are preventable, too.
Classic conspiracy theorists find the shift in conspiracy theories troubling.
