COVID-19 hits Paris Olympics: Athletes forced to withdraw and mask up

When it comes to abortion, the GOP insists on states' rights to set laws, claiming national laws or court rulings are Federal overreach.

When states pass sensible gun laws, the GOP is outraged that state governments think they can limit the Second Amendment because every word is sacrosanct.

When it comes to the 14th Amendment's prohibition against elected officials “who have engaged in insurrection or rebellion,” the GOP asserts we should ignore that and let voters decide. (1/4) #VoteBlue

The CDC is reporting that the positive rate of testing for #COVID19 is now the third-highest of the pandemic. The current positive rate is the highest it's been since January 2022. If the trend continues another week, the positive rate will be the second-highest of the pandemic. COVID in wastewater doesn't quite correlate--it's at moderate levels and rising, but nowhere near record. Be safe. Protect yourself and those you love with just a bit of caution.

The percentage of Americans who are CURRENTLY experiencing symptoms of #LongCOVID is not declining. It's been between 5.8% and 6.1% throughout 2023.

Meanwhile, the percentage who have EVER experienced Long #COVID19 symptoms is drifting up from 14.0-14.8% in 2022 to 15.1-15.7% in the past six months.

This implies new and more people are experiencing chronic symptoms. Remember, the best way to avoid Long Covid is to avoid getting COVID!

Headline from The Onion. I laughed out loud.

How insane is it that we don't have new rules for safer are in public spaces?

We've outlawed drunk driving, even though a study found only 1 in 625 DWI trips resulted in a crash.

Right now, #COVID19 is still mutating and we have a new surge in infections. There is a MUCH greater than 1 in 625 chance that someone who's infected will infect others in a crowded restaurantor event. Those people have a 10-20% risk of longer-lasting, possibly chronic health issues.

Why haven't we acted?

How the media gaslights people on #COVID19:

In one article, it says, “The uptick of cases likely isn’t cause for alarm, though: most Covid cases are mild” and then buries this quote from an epidemiologist: “Covid is likely to remain in the leading causes of death in the United States for the foreseeable future.”

If a leading cause of death can be easily prevented with simple mitigations, then how is ANY uptick in cases not a reason for concern?

Consistent masking beats only masking when there's a spike underway. Alas, almost no one listens or cares.

“The findings, published in the Medical Journal of Australia, indicate consistent mask use in the community is more effective at reducing COVID-19 infection and mortality burden, than waiting for a spike in cases or new wave of infections before wearing a mask.”
