Glenn researches and writes about the history of printing, focused particularly on newspaper comics and printing molds. Order his book How Comics Were Made. He’s a long-time technology journalist, who contributes regularly to Macworld and TidBITS and writes books in the Take Control Books series. A former Amazon employee (1996–97) who used to eat burritos with Bezos, Glenn is more interestingly a two-time Jeopardy! winner.

Arguably, AirBnb should have a maximum wide-angle lens allowed for photos of places (unless a normal lens shot is also shown)

This is one of the greatest single-minded things about the reason for an obscure piece of infrastructure I've ever read. https://xoxo.zone/@mathowie/110980256864841146 nostr:npub1wc7tusu6flza46an2ktnuyp3x3hnjgzn8yu5cr4nggh20ukr0jlqg7gyhe This reminds me of my printing artifacts obsession.

I was trying to explain this to nostr:npub13yhtced946jss464sh05p0lfp9xaa0ypfeh89fy69ceksdwxfx9sdha5se recently. They have a massive, like 15-foot long Scitext scanner at the Museum of Printing in Haverhill, MA, which is covered with dials, like a mad scientist created it.

nostr:npub1kyu3ug3ntqvlsg7ya252egrcfme90sz90kwv6mdf2cqagmpdsh3spraure Klein is so thoughtful—the self-critique and -examination is really something most “public intellectuals" and pundits and politicians miss. I love her rigor.

nostr:npub19aamzvek2796ylnznk6u89a6pctpxv5m4xvcyl8ragaa43zjp5cq0360u9 Some days, you'd think I lost 10% of my vocabulary. But, also, I don't want to minimize if you're finding it disturbing!

nostr:npub19aamzvek2796ylnznk6u89a6pctpxv5m4xvcyl8ragaa43zjp5cq0360u9 Happens to me regularly when I'm tired or sick. Like I've used up my brain juice. Fortunately, only a subset of time and not consistent. But absolutely the kind of thing a neurologist could settle your mind over! I did that at one point with a recurrent eyelid twitch!

When I was just on press, we could push about 300% in CMYK on uncoated stock, or even more. The cover of two of the books are even having black hit twice at 100% each.

nostr:npub1yf8gcfhtctnnn5z9ttzelrv6wv5nnhee3n8mgnfas0zfcaql5xcsnfffmg Yes! I liked The Magicians tv series, particularly seasons 3 onward, but I actually like to see a faithful adaptation of the books, with some minor modifications. They did a real reinterpretation of it for the series, which made sense, but I think there’s a lot that was left out that would’ve filmed perfectly well too.

nostr:npub1yf8gcfhtctnnn5z9ttzelrv6wv5nnhee3n8mgnfas0zfcaql5xcsnfffmg That is an excellent description of Asimov’s work! I always sort of loved it, but also hated how badly the characters were written. It made for awkward reading, even though thought-provoking. Of course, no reckoning about Asimov‘s personal behavior ever came, so I am torn about the way He expresses his ideas and works relative to his bad personal behavior.

nostr:npub1yf8gcfhtctnnn5z9ttzelrv6wv5nnhee3n8mgnfas0zfcaql5xcsnfffmg Yes, but they didn't do very well in season 1 being closer. It's really a loosely based on now. nobody ever managed to film the thing before, so I guess this is as close as we'll ever get.

nostr:npub1semuvvhtwpzr7yy98llezqwgn4znvnyzlfsaawanpexj3x032d9ssgk8e3 Thank you! It is a book full of love and care (and also keyboards)

nostr:npub1lzkljuwdnz46tewqkhnlmc049kyjm9sg6uxy87uvtyzuttg3zhjsxycu4x I hadn't done much in a decade and then a decade before that. This last year has been intense, including 100 hours on press in July!
