Yes... use only for interfacing with the legacy world. Use a mini laptop with secure os for everything else and you won't miss it. No phone is secure
Check out Meshtastic, it uses a long range LoRa mesh to pass short messages around. Current uses are centered around search-and-rescue and short messaging, but as long as you aren't sending too much data then other uses are feasible.
I wonder when we will see the first Nostr relay on packet radio. Seems like a good fit for the medium.
Torrents (or at least magnet links) would be a handy addition to the protocol. I can imagine trackers running dedicated relays to advertise new torrents, and perhaps for aging torrents that need additional seeders.

Trying out this nostr thing. The pubkey approach is way better than choosing a single relay as in Fedi, and much simpler than something like Secure Scuttlebutt. Feels like a true workhorse protocol like SMTP or DNS, which have their own issues but have held up the internet for decades.
This is an interesting idea. The dead-simple solution would be an event type that contains magnet links with a description. Trackers could post these automatically for newly seeded torrents, and/or someone could make a plugin for torrent clients that posts automatically when a client starts seeding.
I'd suggest magnet links over torrent files because torrent files with many files and/or trackers can be quite large compared to most Nostr posts.
This approach would cause active torrents to bubble to the surface. Nostr clients could save and index these events for later search if desired.
The biggest issue with torrents is verification, as you have no idea whether or not a particular magnet link contains what is on the label. This problem is inherent to torrents. As with URL links, it is primarily a problem of who you trust as your source.
