I’m pretty sure this is a female “Fernald cuckoo” #bumblebee and I think she’s just grooming herself. I watched for several minutes before slowly approaching with a stick, and she stopped immediately - she wasn’t trapped or in distress.

There were several identical, smaller male bees bedding down for the night in some of the other #sunflowers.

If you’re marking notches, I usually make a tiny, tiny snip - the fabric will curl a bit and you can find it again. Or I’ve even used gaffer tape!
