nostr:npub13w6fhssk27ffmh00g8lfr9p8adxcrvtf8lgu6z2j6je7ugmtqpws4l479m It would really simplify things. There are definitely legitimate reasons to rent out a space. sometimes people need to travel for work for a year or two but plan to come back. sometimes people rent to family or friends because they want to keep a place that has emotional weight. whatever. I'm not against renting in general, but the idea of people being a landlord for their job, purposely taking out loans they can't pay back with the intention of exploiting people looking for housing, that is disgusting.
it's a myth that tenants create maintenance costs. anyone living in a space creates maintenance needs. that's called wear and tear. there are also some kinds of maintenance that happen even if no one is living there, like roof repair or replacing a furnace.
owning property means needing to cover the costs of the property, whether you personally live there or not.
so landlords are really only giving up one thing, which is their own ability to stay in the property. many of them don't even want to stay in their properties anyway. so why do they have the property at all?
60% tax on rental income and all rent is tax deductible for tenants. and if you own more than one rental property it goes up to 85%
I am being reasonable, these numbers are far below 100%
'channers' who wear masks but say a word people think is edgy
vs
liberals who practice saying the right words but don't wear masks to the grocery store
that's a tough one

you have to understand when he says 'free speech absolutist' it doesn't mean an absolute defense of freedom. it means absolutism, as in the political theory holding that all power should be vested in one ruler.
so he's saying 'the absolute dictator's speech is free'. does that help?

where do they even pull this shit from? I feel like just a few years ago, their line was "obviously slavery was awful, but you need to get over it, and stop talking about it. you weren't enslaved" and now suddenly it's "actually there were some benefits". I swear they have think tanks working on this stuff just to cause fights and waste people's energy.
